2nd Quarterly Meeting VHPASMO  June 15, 2018

The 2nd Quarter meeting of our Chapter will be Friday, June 15. It will be a tour of Fort Leonard Wood, MO.  Here’s the schedule:

0900 – 0945.  Arrive at the Pulaski County Visitor’s Center; 137 St. Robert Boulevard, St. Robert, MO. Restrooms and coffee available.

0945. Board tour bus for short trip onto Ft. Wood. We will have an escort with us. No need for any extraordinary security clearances. You will need nothing more than a drivers license.

1010.  Arrive at the Army’s museum complex on the Fort. A great museum.  At the museum is a preserved WW II/Korea/Vietnam era company area with barracks, mess hall, orderly room.  And……a UH-1B on display.

1200. Lunch at a “mess hall” with AIT trainees. (NOT like the mess hall you remember.)

Lunch speaker:  Mr. Keith Pritchard, Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army for Missouri.

1300. A hands-on experience in one of the Army’s “Engagement Skills Training Areas.”   (That’s code for the ultimate video game, I am told.)

1400. Tour the MO Guard’s Aviation Support Facility and their Blackhawks.

Windshield tour of the Fort.

About 1500, return to Pulaski County Visitor’s Center.

The tour schedule is subject to change, depending on training activities that day at the Fort.

But…….Bus will depart at 0945.

Other:

Our group’s only cost will be lunch……$5.60. No charge for the tour bus.  Bring your lunch money.

Plan to take the tour on the provided tour bus and NOT your POV. (No security issues if on our bus.)

Due to tour bus size, this tour is LIMITED to 55 people. BE SURE to RSVP  to John Sorensen, by email at:  j.h.sorensen@outlook.com    We must submit the names of those who are on the tour. If you are bringing a guest, be sure to tell John.

Parking at the Visitor’s Center:   Park your car in front of or behind (a lower level) the Visitor’s Center building.  Also, you can park behind the Ruby Tuesdays restaurant. There is a walk and some steps from that lot to the Visitor’s Center building.
The tour bus is not equipped to handle individuals who are wheelchair bound.

This will be a really good day on Fort Wood. If you haven’t been there in several years, you won’t recognize the place.   It is a joint base for the Engineers, Chemical Corps and the MP’s.
I hope to see you June 15.

4th Quarterly Meeting VHPASMO of 2017

The South Missouri Chapter, VHPA held its 4th Quarter Meeting on Veterans Day, Saturday, November 11.  Chapter members walked in the Branson Chamber of Commerce Veterans Day Parade through downtown Branson. It is quite a parade with a larger turnout of veteran organizations and a huge and appreciative crowd lining the streets.  The Chapter laid a wreath at the Missouri Vietnam Veterans Memorial on the campus of the College of the Ozarks.  The memorial is to the 1410 from Missouri who lost their lives during the Vietnam War.  The wreath was laid by Missouri Lt. Governor Mike Parson, an Army veteran himself, assisted by Chapter President Dr. Dick Elgin, VHPA Past-President John Sorensen, and, representing MOAA, Chuck Guy.  The ceremony was followed by a luncheon held in the College’s Keeter Center. Lt. Governor Mike Parson was the luncheon speaker. College of the Ozarks President Dr. Jerry Davis was recognized for his leadership at the veteran-friendly College.
